Burn Wound Care

Certain burns benefit from ongoing wound management, infection monitoring, and a clear plan for escalation if depth or severity requires a higher level of care.

Understanding burn severity

Burns range widely in depth and severity. Some are well suited to outpatient or mobile wound care, while more severe or extensive burns require referral to a specialized burn center.

How PWS approaches burn wounds

For appropriate cases, care includes wound cleansing, dressing management tailored to burn depth, infection monitoring, pain-aware dressing changes, and coordination with a burn specialist or hospital when needed.

What to watch for

Large or deep burns, burns to the face, hands, joints, or genitals, chemical or electrical burns, and any burn with signs of infection should be evaluated urgently.

Seek emergency care immediately for rapidly spreading infection, fever, confusion, severe pain, black tissue, or any concern for sepsis. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
